Being brutally honest there is a lot of rubbish written about how to use a lead clip properly. The essence of the system is that it will allow a snagged lead to pull off the rig, thus releasing the fish from the unseen snag or weed bed so you land it rather than lose it. If you were attached to a really big carp, would you forfeit the lead to guarantee you landed the carp? Korda know Korda would, it's a small price to pay. All Korda packaging is filled to overflowing with information on how to use the products effectively, this booklet expands and reinforces that information. The basic rule of the lead clip system is the lead must eject before the swivel pulls out. This is because if the swivel comes out first the lead will never eject, instead the line will pull back and forth through the system like a running rig leaving the lead snagged and the fish, too! In Korda's opinion the lead clip system is the best way to ensure a fish is not left with a lead because the line does not have to pull through anything for the lead to come off. Use the system correctly and the lead will come off when want it to! One thing is for certain, when the lead comes off, the carp comes to the surface, allowing you to lead it over any underwater obstacles rather than having to drag it through them. This is the most versatile system when it comes to presenting a bait on any lake bed and as such should be chosen as your number one system. Simply follow the steps to make it safe and effective. Using Korda Lead Clips:
The components for the rig fit together with the minimum of effort - all you need is lead clips, rubbers, size 8 Korda swivels (very important) and tubing / lead core. All components pull together; do not use superglue. The swivel MUST 'click' past the special retaining ridge inside the clip. wet with saliva before pushing on rubber. The top system is how most people fish it, badly! The swivel is not in far enough and the rubber is pushed on too far. Loosen the rubber, tighten the swivel, job done. There is a fashion for cutting the clips in half so the lead comes off easier, Korda disagree strongly - don't push the rubber on as far, or stretch it first with forceps. Hold the lead and the hook link and pull against each other. If the lead comes off first the system is working perfectly. It is YOUR responsibility to get it right. Size 8 ring swivels are slightly smaller than standard size 8's. Add a small piece of 25lb line to the cavity of the lead clip to tighten the grip sufficiently.
